Mr. Jin Yong introduced major countries’ status quo on carbon peak and carbon neutrality worldwide, and analyzed the value, principles and obstacles of carbon neutrality. He summarized the achievements of both energy consumption and CO2 emission reduction in China, and pointed out that the key solution to realizing the energy conservation target in “the 14th five-year plan” is technological innovation, including upgrading of the conventional refining technology and more efficient utilization of fossil energy. Mr. Jin analyzed the impact of natural gas, bio-technology, algae-to-fuel, farming and animal husbandry on energy conservation, and shared his outlook on China’s green, low carbon, recycling development route in the next 40 years, including envision on future energy and electricity structures.

Gao Ling, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Sinopec Capital, expressed his welcome and thankfulness for Academician Jin Yong. He said that the lecture covered the theory and practice of carbon peak and neutrality, laying a solid foundation for Sinopec Capital’s future research and practice in this regard. He also emphasized that Sinopec Capital will actively implement Chairman Zhang Yuzhuo’s principles and requirements on Sinopec’s transition, upgrading, and net-zero emission, contributing more to Sinopec’s ultimate plan on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, a decade ahead of China’s 2060 carbon neutrality target.
